1919-2009 Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean F. MacGillivray, 89, of Seaview Manor and formerly of 14 Rockdale Ave., Glace Bay. Jean passed away at the Manor on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Mary (Campbell) Fraser. Jean was a member of St. Anne's parish, Glace Bay. Jean was a graduate of Teachers Normal College in Truro and taught in various places in Cape Breton retiring from Lake Vale School in Grand Lake. Jean was a lifetime member of St. Anne's CWL and at one time served as its president. Jean was an avid bridge player and a former member of the Lingan Golf and Country Club. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Jeanette 'Huna' McDonald, Toronto; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Urban MacGillivray, sister, Alice 'Sis' McDonald and brother, James 'Bobby' Fraser. In honouring Jean's wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
