Adeline (Hood) Sturmy

1914-2009, Baddeck It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Jan. 23, 2009, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital at the age of 94. Born in Florence, C.B., she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Maria (Ross) Hood. Adeline and her husband Frank spent their working years in Halifax and later retired to Cape Breton to be close to family. Adeline moved to Baddeck after the passing of her husband and was residing at Alderwood Rest Home for the past number of years. Adeline will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her baking, cooking and hospitality, her sense of humour and compassion for others will never be forgotten. Adeline loved to travel and was always ready at a moment's notice. Adeline was very involved in her grandchildren's lives and loved them with all her heart. Adeline is survived by her son, Roy (Carrie) and their family, Christopher (Tracey), Leigh Anne, Kimberley; daughter, Beverly (David) Dunlop and their family, Ashley, David, Brittany and Kirstan; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Zoe Sturmy. Adeline is also survived by her sisters, Mary Christiansen, Aerise MacMillan; her brother, Mullins Hood; and a number of nieces, nephews and special friends. Adeline was predeceased by her husband, Frank and her brothers, Bill, Joe, Bob and John. Visitation will take place Monday, Jan. 26 from 2-9 p.m. at MacAskill's Funeral Home, Baddeck. Funeral service and committal will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Cameron Brett and Rev. Brenda Drake officiating. Donations can be made in Adeline's memory to the Victoria County Memorial Hospital or a Canadian Cancer Society, Relay for Life.
