Born: February 25th, 1918
Passed on: December 14th, 2008
Feb. 25, 1918-Dec. 14, 2008 We remember with joy the long and well-lived life of Frances Jamsek Povh, formerly of 33 Ryan St., Scotchtown. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, after a sudden but brief illness. She was born in Radece, Slovenia, Feb. 25, 1918, and moved at the age of three with her family to France, where she lived for seven years. Frances came to Canada with her mother Mary, older sister Mary and younger sisters Pauline and Annie in 1928, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax on the Red Star Liner Pennland, where the family met up with their father (and husband) Frank Jamsek, who had come to Canada earlier to set up residence for his family. Settling in New Waterford, N.S., Frances married Frank Povh, also born in Slovenia. Together, Frances and Frank raised three devoted daughters and followed them to Ontario in 1988, where Frank died in 1991. Blessed with good health and an active mind, she was able to live independently until the very end, and touched the lives of many. Frances developed acute pancreatitis on the morning of Dec. 11 and was admitted to Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington. Her condition deteriorated and she died Dec. 14. Visitation was held at Smith's Funeral Home on Guelph Line, Burlington, with the funeral Dec. 17 at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Burlington. Frances is survived by her loving daughters, Emily, Susan and Janet; treasured son-in-law, Stephen Cheesman; beloved grandchildren, Chris, Kent and Nicole; dear sister, Pauline Feit and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary, her husband, Frank and her sisters, Mary and Annie. Those wishing to reach the family are invited to contact her daughter, Susan Povh, 1978 Four Seasons Dr., Burlington, Ont., L7P 2Y1, 905-336-1160.
