William Bernard 'Buddy' Bryden

66, Reserve Mines William 'Buddy' Bryden of 113 Centreville Rd., Reserve Mines, formerly of McKay's Corner, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Jan. 26, 2009. Born in Glace Bay, Buddy was the youngest son of the late Thomas and Lillian (McLeod) Bryden. He was a member of St. Joseph's parish, Reserve Mines. Buddy was employed in the dry cleaning business in both Glace Bay and Sydney for several years. He was a very easy going man and was ready and eager to lend a hand to anyone. Buddy's favourite pastime was spending time with his family and friends, fixing things around the house and his special drives with his dog 'Kali' and listening to country music. Buddy is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Dolly (McMullin); daughters, Bernadette (Johnathan), Coldbrook, N.S., Ellen (Stevie), Reserve Mines; son, Michael 'Buddy Jr.' (Paula), River Ryan; his granddaughters, Jennifer and Nicole Poirier, Marissa Bryden, Ashley Donovan, April Dawn Snow, Victoria, Ariel, who were his pride and joy. Buddy was 'Poppy' to his special sister-in-law, Paula, whom he cared for at home. Also surviving are sisters, Norma (Sonny) Morrison, Glace Bay, and Bessie Deboer, Grand Cache, Alta.; many sisters and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy, Margaret K., Margaret, brothers, Joseph, James, Gerald, Basil, Angus, Leo, Lawrence, Michael and Melvin, mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Michael McMullin. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating. A reception will be held in the parish hall. Cremation will follow with interment in the parish cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy for Buddy, donations in his memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, Palliative Care or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
