SLAUENWHITE, Gloria Dawn - After a short but courageous battle with lung cancer, Gloria Dawn Slauenwhite passed away peacefully on March 28, 2010. Born in Upper Sackville on December 9, 1942 she was the daughter of John and Susan Slauenwhite. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Kirk Mumford (Shona), Michelle Mumford (Joanne) and Brett Mumford (Ashley);  her grandchildren: Jacob Mumford, Koby, Kayla, Clint, Katie and Keifer Reteff and her step-granddaughter , Jessica Lake-Crossley; and her foster children Emily Reteff (Todd) and Dwayne Dicks. Gloria is survived by her three sisters: Joan Marryatt (Harold), June Antle (Jim) and Linda Mumford, and her four brothers: John Slauenwhite (Val), Jim Slauenwhite (Connie), Doug Slauenwhite (Heather), and George Slauenwhite (Erma).  Gloria was predeceased by her step-grandson, Joshua Lake-Crossley. Gloria was a graduate of Mount Saint Vincent University and also a graduate of the former Atlantic Computer Institute. She worked for the school board for the past 30 years as a conveyance driver providing transportation to and from school for special needs students. She was also an Avon Independent Sales Representative. Gloria was a community activist, and was involved extensively as a volunteer in the community of Mount Uniacke. She was involved in the parent group for the start-up of the Boy Scouts in the area; was a member of the team that started the hot lunch program at Uniacke District School, acted as co-ordinator of the community school for one year, and was a member of the Uniacke Library Board, holding the position of chairperson for the last two years of the board. One of her most recent community effort was an exciting venture into politics, running for district councillor in October of 2008. Up until she became ill she was an active member of citizens on patrol, and in a research capacity with the “Pssst” column in the Uniacke Newsletter. She took great joy in the sleuthing process and the lively debates, which ensued from the fruits of her labour. Gloria enjoyed doing crafts, sewing and the wide world of the Internet. She also adored her four legged friends, and was the proud owner of many dogs and horses over her life. She possessed an infectious laugh and a dry sense of humour that made her wonderful company and she will be very much missed around many kitchen tables. Please join us in celebrating the life of Gloria in with a memorial service which will be held April 1, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Anglican Parish of St John the Evangelist; 954 Old Sackville Road.
