Entered into the Arms of the Angels on Thursday, March 19, 2009, age 49. Predeceased by his father John, mother Maude and brother Joseph. He will be sadly missed but his strength of character and immense capacity for love will remain with sisters Mary (Robert) Hayes, his best friend and confidante, Patricia (Bill) Harris, Mable (Gerald) Tobin, Margaret (Jim) Pike; brothers Frank (Nellie), Clarence (Ann), Don (Doreen) and Paul (Karen); sister-in-law Patricia Newman; special nephew Joshua Hayes and all other nieces and nephews who loved and admired him. Also left to mourn his extended families, The Community of Christian Brothers in Vancouver and the teachers, staff and students at Vancouver College. The prayers, love and support posted on Facebook (praying for Brother Newman) during his illness in September and since his passing is a testament to the gift and passion he had for teaching and truly defined his purpose in life as a great educator and mentor. A Mass and Christian Burial Service was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Vancouver on Tuesday, March 24. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Friday, March 27 from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
