Sackville, N.B - The death of Rupert Ernest Read, age 85, occurred on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, N.B. Born in Upper Rockport, N.B. on April 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Ernest and Florence (Babcock) Read. Rupert lived most of his life in Upper Rockport. He is survived by three sons, Melbourne (Nancy) of Sackville, N.B., Walter S. (Judy Hicks) of Sackville, N.B. and Wilbur (Marlene) of Woodpoint, N.B.; four daughters, Joyce (John) Atkinson of Westcock, N.B., Cynthia (Douglas) Carter of Sackville, N.B., Lottie Hicks of Sackville, N.B. and Janet (Douglas) Hart of British Settlement, N.B.; sister, Lillian Read of Sackville, N.B.; 15 grandchildren, Michael Atkinson, Joanne (Jason) Smith, Krista Read, Alison Read, Walter L. Read, Jennifer Read, Melanie (Devon) Partridge, Kirk Read, Robert (Leanne) Carter, Monica (Jason) Kaye, Shawn (Amanda) Hicks, Stacey Hicks, Joseph (Jess Arsenault) Hart, Adam Hart and Andrew Hart; 12 great-grandchildren, Evan, Tyler, Joseph, Matthew, Naudia, Justin, Ethan, Christina, Lindsay, Katerina, Julie and Adrianna; step-grandchildren Shannon (Nathan) Miner and Ryan Hicks; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Mae (Tower) Read in 1999; an infant son David; two sisters, Jennie Read and Mabel Tower; and a great-granddaughter Mae. Arrangements were entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Visitation was held on Friday, May 11, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held from Campbell's Funeral Home on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ryan Skaling officiating. Burial followed in the Rockport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rupert may be made to the Rockport Cemetery, the Drew Nursing Home Van Fund or to the charity of one's choice.
