Lorne Bliss Costin

COSTIN - Lorne Bliss aged 82 years of South Albion Street, Amherst, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2008 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan. Born in East Amherst, he was a son of the Late Albert Arthur and Greta May (Brownell) Costin. He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders from 1944 to 1945. Following his return to Amherst he became an entrepreneur, owning and operating Lorne Costin Excavating & Trucking; former President of Costin Paving & Contracting; developer of Highland Village and Cumberland Ridge Land Leased Communities. He was a Life member of the Amherst Golf Club; member of Amherst Investments Club; Citation Indians Trailer Club; Cumberland Car Club and former member of Amherst and Area Industrial Commission; Warden and member of Parish Council of Christ Church; Cumberland Twirlers; The Border Rounders; The Sounds' of Cumberland-Barber Shoppers and the Amherst Y's men. He enjoyed playing his accordion, banjo and harmonica, the family cottage, winters in Florida, travelling and spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew and met him because of his charismatic and outgoing personality. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years the former, Jean Marie Ridgway; sons, William "Bill" (Marjorie) Costin, Amherst and Douglas (Kim) Costin of Grand Barachois, NB; daughters, Deborah (Walter) Tennant of Lower Sackville and Susan (Brian) Gairns of Amhrst; grandchildren, Andrew and Jillian Costin and Nicole Gairns all of Amherst; brothers, Arthur Costin, East Amherst and Charlie (Audrey) Costin of Greenwood; several nieces, nephews and cousin, Marion MacLean of St. Stephen, NB. Predeceased by sisters, Lottie and Marion; brothers, Wilkie and Carl. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. Visitation was held 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 Tuesday, June 17, 2008 in Christ Church, Amherst. Memorial Service was held 11:00 am Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from Christ Church, with Archdeacon Glenn Eason officiating. Burial in Christ Church Cemetery, Amherst, N. S.
