Orel E White

Orel E White A veteran of the Second World War, he served in England, Belgium and Holland with the Cape Breton Highlanders. A pipe fitter by trade, he worked in Ontario for 35 years before retiring to River Hebert in 1985. He was a member of Branch #14 Royal Canadian Legion, River Hebert, Boiler Maker's Union Local 128, former member of Brookside Curling Club and a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, curler, gardener and a good cribbage player. Orel will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Nonie (Norena) Melanson; a son Wayne (Yolanda), Missisauga; and a daughter Susan, Hamilton; a step-son Eric (Lola) Melanson, River Hebert; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four brothers, Reginald (Nora), Billy (Ruth), Sidney (Mavis) and Frederick (Mary); and by two sisters, Eva (Claude) Thibault and Doris Whitworth. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nellie and by sons, Larry, Michael and Kenny and by sister, Neta and brothers, Albert, Joseph, Pat, Harold and Arthur. Arrangements were been entrusted to the River Hebert and Joggins Community Funeral Home, Main St, River Hebert (251-2958). A memorial service was held at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, River Hebert on Saturday, June 2, 2007 with Rev. Father David MacDonald officiating.
