The death of Mr. William "Bill" George McKay, companion of the late Bernice Leach of the Veteran's Wing of Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, and formerly of Newcastle, NB, occurred on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his residence at the age of 90. Born in Millerton, NB, he was the son of the late John and Myrtle (Taraldson) McKay. Bill was retired from Canada Post. He served overseas as a WWII veteran and after returning served with the Canadian Air Force. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10 Newcastle. Bill is survived by: one daughter: Linda Gillard of Toronto, ON; four sons: David (Chris) of South Esk, NB; Robert (Margaret) of Abbottsford, BC; Terry (Debbie) of Douglastown, NB; Kenny (Claire) of Toronto, ON; step-children: Norman Leach (Mary) of Toronto, ON; Bernice Leach and Beverley Leach of Fredericton, NB; Raymond (Gail) Leach of Moncton, NB; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and special friend Murray Townes.
The family will receive visitors at Bell's Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held from the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel on Friday at 2 PM with Rev. Ross Wiseman officiating. Burial will take place in the Miramichi Cemetery later in the spring. In Bill's memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veteran's Wing of the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home or to a memorial of one's choice.
