TRENTON – Barbara Arlene MacCharles, of Chestnut St., Trenton, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Norma, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer at the age of 86.
She was a daughter of the late Graydon and Florence (Hopper) Robson, Apple River, N.S. and Welland, Ontario.
She will be fondly remembered by her daughters, Norma (Gary) Tonks, New Glasgow; Patricia (Murray) Workman, Antigonish; son, Norris (Lana), Port Alberni, B.C.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Keith (Cathy) Robson; sister, Ardis (Fred) Steinhoff, both of Ontario; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest (Dutchy) MacCharles, Trenton; brother, Mervyn Robson; sister, Audrey Atkinson, both of Ontario.
Barb retired from hairdressing but not from community activities. She was a member of First United Church, Trenton; the Mary Unit of the UCW; Trenton Chapter of the LOBA; Pictou County Ukulele Group; Steeltown Friendly Group; and Pictou County Senior’s Choir.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First United Church, Trenton, with Rev. Debra Orton officiating.
Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the VON, Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or a charity of choice.
