Elta Maude Crossman of Mill Cove Nursing Home (formerly of Burton, N.B.), daughter of the late Harry and Eva (Rafuse) Broome, died at the Oromocto Public Hospital on April 30, 2009, in her 89th year.
Born on June 28, 1920, in New Ross, N.S., she married Rettie Crossman in 1944. In 1972 they built a home in Burton for their retirement. Elta enjoyed her time as a member of the Eastern Star and the UCW.
Elta was always game for anything and she never lost her sense of humour. Bingo, playing cards and visiting family and friends were some of her favorite pastimes. She loved a funny story and was queen of the "one- liners".
Elta is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rettie, Mill Cove Nursing Home; her daughter, Carol McLean (Bob) of Cumberland Point, Wayne (Carolyn) of Cornwall, P.E.I., Kevin of Burton and Peter (Erin) of Carlisle, ON; grandchildren, Shelley Bridges (Bill) of Sheffield, N.B., Liam and Dylan Crossman, Carlisle, ON; great-grandchildren, Brittney and Duncan Bridges, Sheffield, N.B. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Betty and Leodia Broome of N.S. and Marion Walker of ON; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Elta was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by her sisters, Evelyn Legge and Lois Fletcher; brothers, Harold, Ira, Arnold and Gerald.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Sunday, May 3, 2009, from 1-4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Monday, May 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. Rev. Keith Howlett will officiate. Interment will be in the Oromocto Anglican Church Cemetery.
