STELLARTON – Malcolm Neil “Dyke” Dykens, 71, of Maple Street, Stellarton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Robert and Elsie (Swanwick) Dykens. Dyke was a resident of Pictou County all his life. He worked at Maritime Steel for over 30 years, retiring nine years ago. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #34, New Glasgow. In his early years, Dyke was an avid dart player, bowler, baseball player and trout fisherman. Later on, he enjoyed watching the Blue Jays play, going for drives in the mustang and playing his lucky numbers waiting for the big win. He loved spending time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His family was his greatest treasure. Surviving are his wife, Frances (Weeks); children: Kenny, ON; Thelma (Donnie), Riverton; Neil (Marilyn), Four Mile Brook; Billy Chaulk, Cheticamp; Dawn, Trenton; Darlene, New Glasgow; Stacey (John), PEI; Jason (Alicia), Riverton; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers: Danny (Betty); Fraser (Louise); Baker (Winnie); sisters; Thelma Falt; Violet Carrigan; Etta Baker; Elaine (Jim) Turnbull; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother; Robert Jr. (Lois).
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Sunday, in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Private family burial will take place in the Christ Anglican Church Cemetery at a later date.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Dyke may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital, the Lung Association or the Victorian Order of Nurses.
