It is with great sadness the family announced the death of Robert (Bob) Frank West age 61, of Truro and formerly of Amherst on Thursday, April 30, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro after a long and courageous battle with diabetes.
Born in Amherst he was a son of the late Milton and May (Harrison) West.
Bob joined the Canadian Air Force in 1966 and served for 9 years in Greenwood, NS. He lived in Amherst for 28 years where he worked for the Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Masonic Acacia Lodge #8, Amherst. Over his life he had many interests and kept adjusting those interests due to the limitations of his disease. He adored his family pets, which kept him happy for many years. During his last few years his favorite pastime was playing bridge and he was a member of the Truro Duplicate Bridge Club. He was also a member of the First United Church Men's Group, Truro.
He was an active member and president of the Amherst Chapter of the Kidney Foundation. In 1994 he received a kidney transplant, the greatest gift of his life with the exception of his family.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Beverly (Turner), two daughters Melissa of Cape Broyle, NL and Shanna of Toronto, ON and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Dara.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 2 - 3 p.m. followed by the Masonic and funeral services at 3 p.m. all at Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst (667-9906)
Rev. Allen Darby officiated.
Interment will take place at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery.
