STELLARTON/NEW GLASGOW – Sarah Jane ‘Babe’ MacKay, age 95, of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Stellarton, passed away May 4, 2009, in the manor.
Born in Stellarton, August 4, 1913, she was a daughter of the late John William “Kent†and Sarah Jane (Kitson) MacKay.
Babe had been a resident of Stellarton since 1981 having previously resided in Moncton for some 30 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and Our Lady of Lourdes CWL for over 50 years. In earlier years she worked at the former Purvis Confectionary in Stellarton and later worked as a house-keeper for Herb and Annie MacQuarrie of Stellarton.
She is survived by nieces, Mary (Jack) MacAloney, New Glasgow; Diane MacPherson, Stellarton; nephews: Duggie (Sharon) MacPherson, Stellarton; Bob (Wendy) MacKay, Stellarton; Tom (Geraldine) MacKay, New Glasgow.
Besides her husband Harry, she was predeceased by sister, Mary MacPherson; brothers, Edward and Tom, and also two brothers and two sisters in infancy.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with con-celebrants Father Peter MacDonald and Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
