It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darren Aloysius Buchanan of Brantford, Ont., formerly of Gardiner Mines, on Friday, May 1, 2009, at University Hospital in London, Ont., after a long battle with heart disease.
Born on May 9, 1966, he was the son of Gordon and Bernardita ‘Deats’ (Burke) Buchanan.
He obtained his bachelor of arts degree from Cape Breton University and worked in sales and operated his own business before retiring due to ill health.
Darren will be remembered as a devoted and loving son, husband, father and brother. His proudest moments were spent with his daughter, Melissa, and at the hockey rink with his son, Jeremy. One of his passions was planning drag racing trips with his brothers.
Darren loved returning home to Cape Breton to spend time with family and friends creating memories that will never be forgotten by those who loved him.
Darren will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend, Rose Mary (McDonald); daughter, Melissa and son, Jeremy. He is also survived by his parents; sisters, Karen (Kevin) Black, Sydney River, Paula (John) Weatherby, Marion Bridge, Kelly (Troy) Baldwin, Scotchtown; brothers, Blair (Cheryl), Antigonish, and Colin (Diane), Gardiner Mines. Darren will also be remembered by his nieces and nephew, Chantel Buchanan, Bethany and Cale Buchanan and twin nieces, Kayla and Breanna Baldwin.
Funeral mass will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. James parish with Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating.
Interment will be in St. James Cemetery.
Darren will be forever remembered for giving life as an organ donor.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
