Jessie McLaughlin
Born: August 29th, 1925
Passed in: Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada
Passed on: April 4th, 2010
On Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the Grand Manan Nursing Home Jessie left this world to join her beloved husband, Vinton and many other loved ones in eternity. Jessie was born on August 29, 1925 to Florence (Benson) and Harley Small. She grew up in Seal Cove and no other place was ever truly home for her; despite living in Saint John, Fredericton and Woodstock for a total of six years. Training as a hairdresser was completed at Saint John Vocational School; but she spent many more years working for Connor Brothers. Her priority in life was serving others, in Christ's love: she was an active member of Seal Cove United Baptist Church, attending Ladies' Guild, Bible Studies and singing in the Choir. Her generosity was shown by the homemade goodies she loved to share with friends and neighbours. Being one of the "1925 Babies" provided Jessie with enjoyable outings and then greatly appreciated greeting cards signed by this group of friends. Always in the forefront were her children and grandchildren: Dean McLaughlin (Rose Anna) of Fredericton; Jill Craig (Colin) of Woodstock and Joy Stafford (Doug) of Seal Cove. Jessie enjoyed the variety of endearing names from her grandchildren: Gram to Bradley McLaughlin (Kristi); Mamie to Erica de Passille (Bruno) and Matt Craig; Nanny to Micah Stafford and Gigi to Tianna McLaughlin. As well, Jessie is survived by one brother, Lyndon Small of Seal Cove and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Vinton, Jessie was predeceased by a sister Connie Bagley and brother-in-law Tag; brother James and sister-in-law Lillian; sister-in-law Ardis Small. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the Staff of Grand Manan Nursing Home who considered Mom as family and who provided dignity and respect in her final days.
Visiting will take place at Ells Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the Seal Cove United Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Scott Ryder officiating and Rev. Peter Smith assisting.
