Joyce Lillian Slack - 81, formerly of Kentville, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 after a lengthy illness in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born in Brooklyn Corner, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Holder) Boyle. After graduating from Mack Business School, she worked in Kentville as a legal stenographer and subsequently worked with the late Dr. Robert Healy for 25 years. Always active in the Church, Joyce served as a member with the Finance Committee and the Ladies Auxiliary of Bethany Memorial Baptist Church. She was a dedicated volunteer and fulfilled a number of leadership roles in the Aldershot School Community. Joyce devoted herself to her family and will be sadly missed by her three daughters, Joan (David) MacDonald, Saint John, New Brunswick; Lynn (Erhardt) Frank, Medicine Hat, Alberta; Marlene (John) Stones, Calgary, Alberta; and son, Alan, Kentville; her eight grandchildren, Michael (Kelly), Jan (Alberto), Richele, Jillian (Mark), Hilary, Savanna, Roger and Riley; five great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family predeceased, by her husband, Rudolph "Rudy", sister, Frances, six brothers, John, Bill, Bev, Raymond, Curtis and Bernard. There will be no visitation, by family request. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010 in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. A reception will follow in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Donations in Joyce's memory may be made to Bethany Memorial Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the management and staff of the Wolfville Elms and the Wolfville Nursing Home for their kindness, care and compassion.
