It is with heavy hearts that we announce his passing on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in New Waterford.
Born on Sept. 10, 1948, in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude (MacKenzie) Reid.
Cecil worked in the local coal mines at one time, also in Grand Cache, Alta., then later at Universal Drums in Toronto, before his return to New Waterford.
He loved fishing and hunting with his buddy Dick Blanchard. He enjoyed playing darts and was widely known for his walks around the town every day.
Cecil leaves to mourn his passing his longtime companion and great friend, Doreen Bursey; sisters, Sis (Muriel) O'Connell, New Waterford, Selena Reid, Ajax, Ont., Johanna (Wayne) Steiger, New Waterford, Rosaland (Robert) O'Neil, Glace Bay; brothers, Charlie (Michelle), Sydney, Butch (Barbara), Walter (Ann), Abel (Judy), Tony (Loretta) and Jim, all of Ontario; special nephew, Dougall Campbell, as well numerous nieces, nephews and many great friends. Cecil will be sadly missed by Doreen's family, Anna Marie (Larry) Forward, Frankie Bursey, Janice (Gary) Ferguson, all of New Waterford, Darlene (Steve) Bursey, Edmonton, Alta.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his special buddy, Hayden.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Wayne 'Curly', Angus and sister, Anita in infancy.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard's, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date. A reception will be held at the Army, Navy and Air Force Unit 217, New Waterford, all are welcome.
