"To thine own self be true."
Dr. R. Glen Green died peacefully in Edmonton on April 12, 2010 at the age of 86 in the loving arms of his wife Peggy and three of their children.
Glen and Peggy were married for 63 years. Together they raised 7 children and joyously welcomed 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild into their family. A long time and respected resident of Prince Albert, SK, Glen attended the University of Saskatchewan and McGill University where he obtained doctor of medicine and master of surgery degrees. He practiced family medicine in Prince Albert for 35 years. A man well ahead of his time, Dr. Green believed that holistic medicine was the best way to keep people healthy. The International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine recognized his significant contributions to orthomolecular medicine by inducting Dr. Green into the Society's Hall of Fame in April 2007. Throughout his life Glen was actively involved in numerous organizations including Kinsmen, Rotary, the Progressive Conservative Party and the University of Saskatchewan Senate. He loved curling, golfing, sailing, reading, brisk walks, local art, good food, Saskatchewan sunsets and the beauty of the English language. Glen, through his actions, encouraged others to push their boundaries and make a difference. Glen is survived by the love of his life, Peggy Green (nee Halsey) and their seven children - Margot Hornseth, Susan Green, Janet-Laine Green, Wendy Finlay, P.L. Bastian, John Green and Dawn Green, their spouses and children. Predeceased by his older brother Don, Glen also leaves his beloved siblings Bruce Green, June Menzies, Phyllis Kristjanson and Muriel Brooks and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at St. Alban's Cathedral, Prince Albert on April 23 at 12:00 noon, with a reception to follow.
