It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Catherine (MacAskill) MacDonald.
She passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the MacGillivray Guest Home Sydney, N.S. She was the daughter of the late John and Katie MacAskill of Oregon Road, North River, N.S.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Karen (Michael) Mellett; grandchildren, Cathy (Tom), Donna, Katie and Nora; great-grandchildren, Finn and Gabriel. She was a dear aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Catherine was the devoted wife of the late Donald Garrett MacDonald.
Predeceased by son, Finlay J. (Margaret Jean), daughter, Norena P. and an infant baby boy, sisters, Mary Ann, Christene and Anna Mae, brothers, Dan, Roddie and Norman.
Catherine was devoted to her church and family. She was a tireless worker and caretaker to her family. No matter the burden she never complained. She inspired all of us with her cheerful outlook, love and kindness. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She always appreciated visits with her dear longtime friends, Mae MacRae and Mae Montgomery.
She was a member of the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, North River. A valued member of the AMS and church choir.
Visitation with take place at the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, North River, Tuesday, April 20 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 21 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ian MacLeod officiating. Burial to follow at the Goose Cove Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, North River or MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney.
Arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, N.S.
