Ernest Jones of Quispamsis passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a battle with cancer. Born at Welland, Ontario on July 7, 1928, he was a son of the late Ernest and Catherine "Maude" (Booth) Jones. Ernie was the founder of Ernie's Landscaping, which he owned and operated from 1973 until his retirement in 1994. He previously had worked at Saint John Shipbuilding and at McAvity's, where he was president of the machinist's union. Among his many and varied interests were his love of reading and gardening, as well as building model airplanes, which encouraged him to become a licensed pilot in 1992. He was a member of the Civic Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), and volunteered at Kings Way Care Centre. A faithful member of Park Avenue United Church, Ernie served as an Elder and on various committees throughout the years.
Ernie is survived by a step-son, James Marr (Carol) of Rothesay; a step-daughter, Eleanor Lamrock (Len) of Sackville; brothers Alfred Jones of Saint John and William Jones of Minto; a sister, Winnifred Jacquart of Saint John; grandchildren Steven Marr (Lori), Trevor Marr (Christina), Alison Schickler (Gary), Jeff Lamrock (Pam), Greg Lamrock (Wendy), and Rodney Lamrock (Tara); 11 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ernie is also survived by Irene's daughters, Lillian Totten (Lawrence) and Nelena Donovan (Francis) and their families. Ernie was predeceased by his first wife, Winnifred (Marr) Jones; his second wife, L. Irene (Milbury) Jones; and a brother, Cornelius Jones.
Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM from Park Avenue United Church. Interment will take place in the Long Reach United Church Cemetery.
