With heavy hearts, we the family of Muriel Mary Gray wish to announce her passing on Friday April 23, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital (An Cala), after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Muriel was born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William and Rose (Deveau) Parish.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Ashby Legion Branch 138 and The Cape Breton Veteran's Comfort Fund. She spent many of her summers at the family bungalow at Gillis' Lake, and enjoyed gardening, bingo, playing cards, baking and spending time with her family. Before her marriage Muriel worked as a dietitian at the City Hospital. In her later years she worked at the K-Mart and Miles IGA in Sydney.
Muriel is survived by sisters, Shirley Rupp, Mary Morris, Ontario, and Lillian Bates in New Waterford; sons, David Gray, Glen (Joan) Gray, Gary 'Zeke' Gray, and daughter Dianne (Bill) Bussey. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Gwen and Karrie (her special caregivers), Angela, Jennifer, Dianne, Laura, Amy, Alison, Gary and Jillian, 12 great grandchildren; Kelsey, Abby, Avery, Aaron, Connor, Kate, Ty, Rylen, Keigan, Emily, Evan, and Nola.
Besides her parents, Muriel is predeceased by and is lovingly reunited with her husband and soulmate of 63 years, Earl 'Curly' Gray.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and great grandmother who never forgot a birthday.
A visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday April 25, 2010 at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday April 26, 2010 at St. Joseph's Church, 40 Cabot St., Sydney, with Fr. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
