Twilla Suzanne MacDonald, 56, died in Winnipeg on April 2, 2010, after a short illness.
The wife of Darryl Draeger of Winnipeg, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Peggy MacDonald of Glace Bay.
Twilla moved to Thompson, Man., in 1970 and later did Masters studies in Sociology at University in Winnipeg. She was a political advisor and organizer for the Manitoba NDP Government. Twilla was a tireless activist in the cause of women's rights and social justice. She was especially interested in the care and education of children and enjoyed their company immensely.
She is survived by Darryl; her sisters, Sheila and Innis of Halifax, Sara of Windsor, Ont., Natalie of Portland, Ore.; half-sister, Catherine of St. Germaine, Que.; brothers, Bill 'Laddie' (Audrey), Digby, Sandy (Mary) of Tantallon, Bruce (Tibby) Dartmouth and David (Ann) of Kitchener, Ont.
Twilla was a generous woman of wide-ranging intelligence and wit. We will miss her terribly, but her sense of humour will be remembered by her many friends and three generations of family.
Donations in her memory may be made to Oxfam Canada or Right to Play.
A memorial service was held in Winnipeg. Twilla's ashes will be returned to her Cape Breton home.
