February 12, 1912 - April 25, 2010

With saddened hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Ken Campbell at age ninety-eight years.

He is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 68 years and his sons Alan (Heather) and Bruce of Kamloops, and George (Jessica) of North Vancouver, as well as grandchildren Shelley, Colleen, Ken, Kyle and Steven and great grandchildren, Rhiannon and Chase.

Ken was born in Buckie, Scotland in 1912. A strong student in high school, he was hired by the Canadian Bank of Commerce and emigrated to Canada, arriving in St. John in 1928. His career with the bank took this Scottish lad across Canada, through Toronto, Vancouver and Mission to Creston where he met and married his wife Shirley in 1942. Together they transferred to Grand Forks, New Westminster, Vancouver and Nelson where Ken was appointed Branch Manager. His final move with the bank was to Kamloops in 1959 as Manager.
He was active in the Kamloops Rotary Club, the Kamloops Golf Club and Kamloops Curling Club and was an early director of Ponderosa Lodge.

In 1971 after 43 years he retired to the banks of the South Thompson River to enjoy the good company of friends and neighbours and putter in his large garden. For many years, Ken and Shirley also left winters behind to enjoy the warmer climes of Palm Springs where they golfed and soaked up the sun. In more recent years you could find him either at his computer reading newspapers and learning how to surf the net or enjoy the company of friends and family.

Ken was a unique individual, a man of wisdom, efficiency, humour and compassion. He was a voracious reader, an articulate speaker proud of his mastery of the English language and had an enduring love of learning. He was fond of good conversation and enjoyed the occasional robust discussion.

"Those we love don't go away."
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always dear,
Still loved, still missed, ever near."

We would like to thank Dr. Bantock, the caregivers at Kamloops Seniors Village and staff at Hospice Home for their excellent care and compassion towards our Dad.

No service by request.

Arrangements entrusted to Schœning Funeral Service.
