DOROTHEA HALL

Born In: Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada
Born: November 7th, 1919

Passed in: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Passed on: May 1st, 2010

Dorothea died peacefully, listening to her favourite music with family by her side on May 1, 2010 at the age of 90. Dorothea, who was also affectionately known as Dorothy, Dot, Doff, Mom, Granny and Grandma, was born in Moose Jaw on November 7, 1919. She loved to tell stories of growing up in Moose Jaw - tales about picnics, Temple Gardens, River Street, hockey and speed skating. She was not a stranger to tragedy - her mother died as a result of a kitchen fire when Dorothea was 14. Dorothea, however, was a lover of life. She loved sports, music, animals, people and a good argument. She devoted her life to helping her family and friends. Dorothea met Grant, the love of her life, in Moose Jaw. Grant was a great hockey player and Dorothea was his greatest fan. Their first son was born while Grant was serving in WWII and they raised three more children, living in Kingston, Regina, Lethbridge, Calgary, and Prince Albert. Dorothea made lifelong friends wherever she went. She was the type of person you would want to sit beside at a party because you could be certain to be made comfortable and have fun. Dorothea was very proud of her secretarial skills and often served as secretary for volunteer positions with groups such as I.O.D.E and the Saskatchewan Ladies Golf Association. She was accomplished in a variety of sports including golf, bowling, badminton, speed skating and curling.
Dorothea is survived by her sister, Nancy Greenwood; sons Watson (Marilyn), Robert (Joan), Terrence (Mary Ann) and daughter, Brenda Solheim; Grandchildren Reni (Ken) Patsula, Wendy (Jason) Benson, Chris (Zoe) Hall, Wade (Julie) Hall, Ashley (Jonathon) Shaw, Kaley (Jeff) Herman, Erin Hall, Danielle Hall, Leah Solheim, Jesse Solheim; Great Grandchildren Tyler, Kelly, Riley, Brody, Jessica, Rebecca, Bria, Camden; Chris's mother Susan Craddock, Erin and Danielle's mother Kerri MacDonald, Jesse and Leah's Dad, Al Solheim and by her good buddy Jazz (Scampy). She was predeceased by her parents James and Mary Fyles, husband Grant, sisters Dora Burnyeat and Mary Carty and her brother William Fyles.
On behalf of Dorothea, her family would like to thank Dr. Enweani for his care and attention over the years, the staff at Lenore Centre Medical Clinic, the staff at Shoppers Drugmart Canarama, Home Care staff and the kind staff at Stensrud for their special care over the last few weeks. A family celebration of Dorothea's life will be held at a later date. In memory of Dorothea, please take time to go outside and play or tap your toe to a good tune.
