Phyllis Hill, a soldier, of The Salvation Army Moose Jaw Citadel Corps, was "Promoted to Glory", Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Phyllis was born in Moose Jaw on January 13, 1914, the first of six children, to Robert Henry Percival Cox and Louise Charlotte Humphreys. Phyllis attended school in Moose Jaw and graduated from Central Collegiate. Phyllis married Roland Leslie Hill, on May 2, 1932 in the Moose Jaw Salvation Army Citadel. They purchased the SE quarter Section 3, Township 17, Range 26, W2nd in 1935, where they laid the family roots for their five children, Twiy, Robert, Benita, Renée and Rolene. As Phyllis travelled the path of life, as wife and mother, she endured hardships as we all do. Phyllis would mourn the loss of her young son at age 2 1/2 yrs and then her husband of twenty-three years. Determined to survive, provide for her family and keep the land, she did all this with faith in her Lord. Phyllis became a soldier of the church after her marriage. The family was raised within the Salvation Army, its teaching of the Bible and its community work. Phyllis was a life member of the Salvation Army Home League ladies group, a life member of the visitation group, League of Mercy, and a Silver Star Mother, in recognition of a child becoming a minister within the Salvation Army. Phyllis was proud of the symbolism of her uniform and freely gave of her time and efforts to help others.

Phyllis was predeceased by: son Robert Silas 1940, husband Roland Leslie 1955, father R.H. Percy 1957, mother Louise 1984, brothers Robert, James, David, and sister Josephine; great-grandson Justin McNutt 2002 and other extended family. Remembering Phyllis is her family: sister Marjorie Merrilees; daughters: Twiy, Benita (Earl), Renée, and Rolene (Gene); grandchildren: William, Catherine (Bob), Leslie-Joy (Kim), Mark (Holly), Douglas (Jennifer), Alan (Lydia), Sharon (Jeff), Manda (D'Arcy), Sean (Gail), Michael (Deann), Geoffrey (Roberta), and Gareth (Sherry), in addition 26 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, many friends and relatives of the Cox and Hill extended families. A Memorial Service will be held at Salvation Army Citadel, 2 Wintergreen Drive, on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 1:30 pm. Colonel Benita Robinson will officiate.
