The death of Mrs. "Betty" Elizabeth Ann (Whipple) Smith, loving wife of 56 years of the late Robert Murray Smith, occurred on May 5, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on November 17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Walter John and Olive May (McGrath) Whipple. Betty was a loving mother to her family. She worked with the Saint John Co-op for many years, was an avid knitter, and was a Guardian Angel, knitting hats for premature babies (preemies). She enjoyed crafts and to socialize with her many friends. Betty was a member of RCL Branch 69. She is survived by six sons: Peter (Cheryl) Smith, Saint John, Michael (Brenda) Smith, Vancouver, Mark (Jean) Smith, Grand Bay-Westfield, Shawn Smith, Saint John, Patrick Smith, Saint John, and Christopher (Stacey) Smith, Vancouver, two daughters: Deborah (Glen) Phillips, Vancouver, and Kelli Smith (Kent Atherton), Saint John, two brothers: Douglas (Mary) Whipple, Bellisle, and Raymond (Rose-Marie) Whipple, Saint John, sister Lynn (Henry) Hebert, Saint John, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Robert, brothers Ronald and Walter (Buddy), and infant sister Darlene.
Resting at Castle "Fallsview"Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. (634-1701) with visiting on Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. The RCL will hold a Tribute Service on Monday at 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow on Monday at 1 p.m. from Castle "Fallsview Chapel". Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Donations to Romero House, P.R.O. Kids-Saint John, or Hestia House would be appreciated by her family.
