John Dukat
DUKAT - John W. Dukat age 68 years of Climax, SK, and of the Rosefield district, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre. John was born on June 25, 1941, on the family farm in the Rosefield district south of Val Marie. He received his education at the Rosefield School. John farmed with his father from a young age and continued farming with his mother after the passing of his father in 1966. He married Chris Valen in 1971, at Masefield R.C. Church. They raised a family of four daughters: Sarah, Julie, Maureen and Wendy. John was a member of the Val Marie Knights of Columbus, Val Marie Parish Council, served on the PFRA board and the Rosefield Snow Plow Club. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with his cattle and horses. He was a jack of all trades with the ability to fix anything from household appliances to all farm machinery. John also dabbled in woodworking with his last project being a china cabinet he built for his granddaughter Amanda. John retired from farming in 1994 keeping the home half-section which he continued to spend his weekends on after moving to Climax. He started working for Honeybee in 1997 as a welder where he worked for several years. John was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Dukat; father-in-law John Valen; brother-in-law Keith Meise; and two infant nephews. John is lovingly remembered by his wife Chris; four daughters, Sarah (Glen Kinnee) of Edmonton, AB, Julie (Shawn Griffin) of Elbow, SK, Maureen (Alan Erickson) of Climax, SK, Wendy (Larry Mitchell) of Bracken, SK; two grandchildren, Amanda and Garrett Mitchell; four sisters, Steiva (Gordon Grant) of Orkney, SK, Liz (Tom Donnelly) of Herbert, SK, Mary (Phil Dillon) of Kelowna, BC, Alfreda Meise of Edmonton AB; mother-in-law Rose Valen; brother-in-law Laren (Brenda) Valen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Church of the Nativity in Val Marie with Reverend Father Rick Krofchek officiating. The eulogy presented by Tom Donnelly. Special music was by Maurice Lemire, Kevin Grant, Kathy Grant and Carol East. Ushers were Kelly Grant and Jessie Grant. Interment took place at Masefield R.C. Cemetery. Binkley's Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Steve Grant, Harold Geiger, Tom Belza, Jack Laturnus, Martin Laturnus and Anton Laturnus.
