Stephen Charles "Steve" Andrews

Passed on: May 10th, 2010

Steve Andrews slipped away as gently and peacefully as he had lived his life on Monday, May 10, 2010 at home with his sons and the family members he cherished most, with him. Born in Corner Brook Newfoundland on May 28, 1954 Steve was a very proud and caring father to "his boys" Matthew and Jay of Halifax. His family was his rock, ensuring his last months were spent in love and comfort. He will always be missed by his sisters and brothers, Shirley and Dale Blair of Tantallon; Wendy Bedingfield and Brenda Robertson, Gaspereau Valley; David and Sharon Andrews, St. John's, Newfoundland and Dick and Becky Andrews, British Columbia. He leaves to mourn him "the girls," nieces Alexandra Blair (William Severino), Atlanta, Georgia; Krista Blair (Tony Chalmers), Nottingham, England; Caroline Blair-Smith (Malcolm Smith), Tantallon and Rachel Bedingfield (Ueli Albert), Gaspereau Valley; "little David" Andrews, (St. John's) Morgan and Wesley Andrews, British Columbia. Special to Steve were his great-nephews Peter and Jeffrey Smith, Oliver Albert, Nicholas Severino and Conor Chalmers and great-niece Sophia Severino. He leaves behind Marsha Pond, mother of his boys, his Aunts Ruth Klevorick and Anne Andrews, special cousins Bob Andrews, Karolyn Genge and Sean Tavenor. He was predeceased by his mother Barbara, father Wesley K. Andrews and step-mother Marian Andrews and by Uncle Bert and Uncle Gordon Andrews.
His remaining family and friends in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland live on remembering how Steve loved to sail, to ski and coach soccer with the boys, to participate in and later to organize Scouts, to "strategically place" rocks in Shirley and Dale's garden and to make very drinkable wine enjoyed by the old neighbourhood. He cheered at Matt's football and baseball games; enjoyed Jay's drumming competitions and relished lobster and sailing weekends in Baddeck. He built beautiful stained glass and shared it with those he loved. He was a volunteer for Feed Nova Scotia and Habitat for Humanity.
The family thanks the Capital Health palliative care team for helping Steve fulfill his wish of staying at home and VON nurses, especially Debbie Townsend and Geralyn MacDonald. Donations in Steve's memory should be made to Feed Nova Scotia or the Victorian Order of Nurses.
He has been cremated. A reception to celebrate Steve's life will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the boys' home, 13 Lynwood Drive in Halifax .On-line condolences may be sent to reefcaptain@gmail.com. Interment in St. John's Newfoundland later in May.
