Donald Murray MacLeod - 69, of Canning, Kings County, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010 at home. Born in Windsor, he was a son of the late Harold and Nellie (Dykens) MacLeod. In his earlier years, he worked in the Gypsum Mines, drove a milk truck and later enjoyed a career in farming. He retired from Acadia University as a custodian. He was a former member of the Port Williams Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning. He enjoyed woodworking, playing darts, gardening and cutting, splitting and stacking his own cord wood. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Betty Joan Mason; five daughters, Angela (Kendall) Merrett, Kentville; Wendy (Paul) Gertridge, Gaspereau; Tanya MacLeod (Brian Keddy), Canning; Lisa (Edward) Huntley and Janice (Frederick) Huntley, both of Scotts Bay; three sons, Brian, Darrell (Debbie Greencorn) and Terry (Elizabeth), all of Kentville; two sisters, Betty (Roy) Kelly, Windsor; Gladys Johnson, New Minas; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Crystal, Nick, Tracy, Chantel, Tanner, Andrew and Evan; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Nellie, in infancy, Maxine Smith and Alice Coldwell; a brother, Harold. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2010, Reverend Elizabeth Johnson officiated. A private family burial took place in the Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the EHS paramedics, Andrew Mitton and Treva Gordon and the Canning firefighters and first responders for their heartfelt kindness and compassion. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
