WESTVILLE – Robert Gordon (Bob) Rankin, age 86, Purvis Avenue, Westville, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Thomas and Laura (Porter) Rankin.
He was a retired employee of Maritime Tel & Tel and had previously worked at Thompson and Sutherland Hardware Ltd., and also as a coal miner. Bob was an avid lover of nature and the outdoors, and a person who lived the golden rule throughout his life.
His family was his greatest treasure.
Surviving are his son, Gary (Denise); granddaughter, Kathleen; and grandson, Patrick, all of Westville. He is also survived by sisters: Dot Crawford, and Alice MacDonald (Gordon), both of Westville; Jean Fraser, Little Harbour; and Shirley Semple (Don), Victoria Harbour, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Margaret Cassidy, Westville and Erna Rankin, Toronto; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (Fitzgerald); brothers, John and Glenn; and sisters, Margaret Shenton and Lila Rankin.
Cremation has taken place. At Bob’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A grave side service will be held in the Holy Name Cemetery, Westville on Sunday at 2 p.m.
No flowers by request. Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Holy Name Cemetery, in care of the Church of the Holy Name, Westville, or to a charity of one’s choice.
