Mosher, Florence “Bernice†- 95, Victoria Vale, passed away May 8, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Valley/Truro. Born in East Margaretville, she was a daughter of the late Otto and Hattie (Bowlby) Nixon. Bernice began her teaching career at age 15. She initially taught in a one room school house, then in neighboring elementary schools, working with special needs children. She was the first principal of Margaretville Consolidated School and ended her teaching career in Middleton Elementary Schools. Bernice was a life long learner. In addition to her busy and fulfilling teaching life, she also helped her husband run a country store in their home for 22 years. Bernice was a devoted participant in the Victoria Vale Baptist Church. She was a very involved active member of her “church family†for 75 years. Family, friends, church and community were the cornerstones of Bernice’s life. An avid bridge player, Bernice enjoyed many hours playing bridge with friends and family. Bernice enjoyed many winters in Florida with her siblings, during her retirement. A cherished mother, grandma, auntie and friend, Bernice always remembered and cared about the details of each person’s life. Surrounded by family and friends through out her long life was testimony to the youth and flexibility of her spirit. She is survived by daughter, Phyllis Cipolla, Valley; daughter in heart, Joanne (Frank) Cory, Gore; grandchildren, Ann Cipolla-Zarycky (Jerry), Toronto, Ont., Robert “Bob†(Nicole) Cipolla, Cole Harbour; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jenna Cipolla, Lilianna Zarycky; special niece, Marie (Dick) Robicheau; many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Austin Mosher; sisters, Ruth Nixon, Louise Willett; brothers, Wilbur, Austin, Leonard; grandson, Paul Cipolla in infancy. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m., Sunday, May 10 in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Visitation will also be held in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton from 7-9 p.m., Monday, May 11 with a Myrtle Rebecca Lodge # 46 tribute service at 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 12 in Victoria Vale Baptist Church, Rev. Vaughan Henshaw officiating. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Vale Baptist Church, the Crohns & Colitis Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
