Frederick Andrew McLaughlin, 86, of Oromocto, passed away on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Fred was born in Lower Millstream to Ella (Walker) and William McLaughlin on July 17th, 1923. He married Mabel Irene Wright on September 15th, 1942 in Millstream. He logged and farmed prior to serving in WWII. He served in the army in the North Shore Regiment of New Brunswick and was injured on D-Day. Following the War, Fred was employed by DND until he retired. He was actively involved with the board of the Sunbury Senior Citizen Manor for years and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93. Fred is predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mabel; his son, William; his parents; his brother and sister in-law, Charles and Edith McLaughlin; his sister and brother in-law, Gladys (McLaughlin) and Raymond Chambers.
Fred is survived by daughters, Jean Kuhn (Fred), Donna McLaughlin (Pierre Robichaud); sons, Dr. Murray McLaughlin (Lori), Travis McLaughlin (Joyce), Terry McLaughlin (Dr. John Swaine), Kevin Dunville (Virginia); his friend, Joanne Smith; daughter in-law, Marie Major; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Friday, May 21st, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 will hold a memorial tribute at 7 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be held at the Burton Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.
