It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Eileen Forrest. Eileen died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her husband and ten children.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Euphemia (Robinson) Phalen.
Eileen worked for many years with the Northside-Victoria School Board as the custodian of Seton Elementary School, until illness forced an early retirement. She spent her remaining years enjoying the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Eileen was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, George 'Brother' Forrest; her 10 loving children, Monica Ann (Kenny) Walsh, Leo (Janice) Forrest, Georgina (Rean) Evans, Karen (John) Seaman, Rhonda Forrest, Blair (Debbie) Forrest, Michelle Forrest, Wayne (Shirley) Forrest, Julie Lynn (Jason) Keeping, all of North Sydney, Albert (Jennifer) Forrest, Lower Sackville; a stepson, Joe (Rose) Woods; 14 grandchildren; one step-grandson; three great-grandchildren; by her five sisters, Monica Phalen, Jean (Leonard) Walker, Leona (Andrew) Jardine, Madonna (Kevin) Whalen, Marie O'Neil; and by many nieces and nephews.
Eileen was predeceased by her sister, Julia Simpson, and by her brothers, Albert and Tom Phalen.
Visitation for Eileen will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
