Robert R. MacPhail, 92, of Fontana, Calif., passed away May 20, 2010.
Born in South Bar, June 9, 1917, Bob was the son of the late Colin and Laura (MacIntyre) MacPhail. Bob worked at Sydney Steel in the engineering department before moving to Fontana where he worked for Kaiser Steel until he retired.
He served overseas with the Lincoln Welland Regiment, 4th Division, 2nd Infantry, during the Second World War as an officer lieutenant. After returning home, he went back to Acadia University where he graduated in civil engineering.
Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Betty, mother of his son Robert, Jr. (Peggy) in Nanaimo, B.C.; and daughter, Kenzie, New Glasgow, N.S.
Also predeceased by his second wife, Iris, stepdaughter, Judy, and brothers, Joseph, Dempsey and Sidney.
He is survived by stepdaughter, Myrna in Sydney, Arlene in British Columbia, and Shirley in Fontana; brothers, Lloyd, Stan (Jennie) and Walter (Marcella), all in Sydney; and sister, Lola (Jerry Tweddle) in Bridgewater, N.S.; also 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Burial will take place in Fontana, Calif.
