Passed peacefully away following a brief illness, in the presence of his loving family, at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, on Monday, May 24, 2010, Fred Baker, age 89, son of the late John and Ella Grace (Hiscock) Baker. Predeceased by wife Marjorie (Gaulton), son Garland, daughters-in-law: Verletta Baker and Geraldine Baker; infant brother Stanley; brother Joseph and sister Vera Forward. Left with fond and loving memories daughter Ella Button (Byron); son Chesley (Judy Boone); daughter-in-law Ruth Baker; loving companion Grace Butterworth and her family; six grandchildren: Craig Baker, Arlene Riche (Bob), Scott Baker (Ellen), Colleen Button (Kevin Martin), Heidi Patey (Andrew) and Andrea Lawlor (Bill) and five great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Jacob Riche, Caitlin and Chelsea Martin and Peyton Lawlor; brother Lloyd (Jean); sisters: Jean Forward (Gordon, deceased) and Daphne Bishop (Bill); sisters-in-law: Joan Baker and Louise McCulley (Jack); brothers-in-law: Sandy Forward and Edwin Gibbons and a large circle of other family and friends. Fred was a lifelong member and Past Master, Leeming L.O.L., Past Preceptor, Rose of Sharon R.B.P. Past Grand Chaplain, Grand Orange Lodge of NL, Past Provincial Grand Master, Grand Black Chapter NL and Past Grand Lecturer, Grand Black Chapter of Canada. Many thanks to the staff of Meadowcreek Retirement Centre for the comfort and loving care given to Fred during his time there. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9:30 p.m. and Friday 10-12. Funeral service from Wesley United Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association NL Provincial Office, or a charity of one's choice.
