We regret to announce the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother, and grandmother, Lillian ‘Lil’ Gordon, 65, on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Florence (Murray) Standing. She was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines.
Lil was a former employee of Rahey’s Supermarket, Tim Horton’s, and operated the canteen at the Sydney Mines Community Center. She was very involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She participated in numerous sports, and was a member of the Sydney Mines Strand Bowling Team, participating in provincial tournaments.
She was one of the founding members of the Northside Wellness Group and faithfully attended all their activities. Lil gave unselfishly of herself, especially to those in need. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. She was our “Angel Among Us”.
More than just a wife and mother, Lil was best friend to her loving husband Robert ‘Bobby’ Gordon; her son, Stephen (Shelley), Charlottetown, P.E.I. and her daughters, Patricia (Al) Paterson, B.C., Roberta (Patrick) Jobe, Minnesota, Bonnie, Sydney Mines and Cynthia (Jonathon) Astephen, Balls Creek. She was also the cherished grandmother of Garrick, Bryce, Samantha, Kimberly, Courteney, Brittney, Christina, Sara, Cassidy and Matthew and loving sister to Thomas (Elizabeth) Standing, Florence (Wallace) Boutilier, and Robert (Joyce) Standing.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William (Ninette) Standing.
Visitation for Lillian Gordon will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Tuesday), May 12, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass celebrating her life will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. The burial will follow in the parish cemetery. After the burial, there will be a reception in the Centennial Room in Immaculate Conception Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lil’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Wellness Center, or to a charity of one’s choice.
