It is with great sadness that the family of George A. Soper announce his passing on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010, at the age of 83 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: his wife of 56 years, Hilda (nee Darrigan); sons: Rodger, Gregory (Gladys) and Jeffrey; daughter, Leah (James) and one grandchild, Ashley; brothers: Leonard of Fort Myers, Florida and Gerald (Mary) Butts of Brockton, MA and sisters: Sadie Slade of Carbonear, Helen (William) Meaney of Freemont, California; stepsisters: Molly Tobin of Corner Brook, Nellie Murphy of Stephenville; sister-in-law, Ada (John) O'Reilly, Maisie Warford and Marilyn Darrigan; brother-in-law, Spencer (Rachael) Darrigan; as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, John & Marion (nee Kelloway) Soper of Carbonear; brother, John Soper; stepbrothers: Michael and William Murphy; father and mother-in-law, Jeremiah & Rose Darrigan of Corner Brook. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 7th at 2:00 p.m. from Memorial United Church, Curling Street, Reverend Clayton Parsons officiating. The interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street, Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 an 7-9 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial United Church.
