MURPHY, Inez "Merlyn" - 76, Yarmouth, passed away May 31, 2010 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. She was born in Springhaven, daughter of the late Benjamin and Gertrude Trefry. In the early years, Merlyn taught school in Moose River Gold Mines before working with Superior Ice Cream and Dairy. She then became payroll clerk for Sweeneys Fisheries and later with Yarmouth Regional School Board. Merlyn volunteered in the Yarmouth Hospital Gift Shop. She donated crafts for community events and was well-known for her beautiful knitting and latch hooking. She was also a five-year member of Curves. She is survived by son Gerald; sisters Ruby Manser and Valda Fiander, both of Yarmouth; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Trefry and Viola Trefry; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Merlyn was predeceased by her husband, Kier Murphy; brothers Vernon, Alan, Earl, Maynard and Wallace; sister Beryl Melanson and daughter-in-law JoAnne Murphy. A memorial service was held Monday in Lower Sackville, with burial in the Higginsville Cemetery, Halifax County. A local service is planned for Saturday, June 12 at 3:30 p.m. at the Yarmouth North Baptist Church. Reception to follow.
