At the Grand Falls General Hospital, June 13, 2010, Mr. Gerald "Butch" Akerley of Lac Baker passed away at the age of 68. He was the husband of Doris (Dube) Akerley. Born at Saint-Leonard in 1942, he was the son of Gertrude Akerley Poitras. Butch was retired from the New Brunswick Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport. Besides his wife, he is survived by six children, Sharon of Vancouver, Tammy Akerley-Cyr (Francois) of Fredericton, Brenda of Vancouver, Kim of Fredericton, Troy (Johanne Gallant) of Dieppe and Kevin (Lina Lebel) of Grand Falls, 11 grandchildren, one sister, Joyce Hayes (Charlie) of Rome, NY, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Resting at O'Regan's Chapel, 83 Saint-Antoine Street, Saint-Leonard with visiting hours Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 16th at 4 p.m. from the Saint-Leonard Roman Catholic Church with interment in the St-Thomas d'Aquin Cemetery, Lac Baker.
