It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph Hughes announce his passing at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's on Sunday, June 27th, 2010, at the age of 85 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories: his loving partner, Edith Day; daughter, Mary Alice (Glenn) Pye, Corner Brook; sons: Bernard (Catherine) Hughes, Antigonish, NS, Lorne Hughes, Ft. McMurray, Brent (Margaret) Hughes, Grand Falls, Jim (Maureen) Hughes, Corner Brook; very special grand-daughter, Nicolle (David) Louvelle-Murphy, Calgary, AB; other loving grandchildren: Bernard, Jason, Michael, Joshua, Christopher, Marcus, Deborah (David) Mattie; great-grandchildren: Nathan, Brody, Brooklyn, Ella Maria, Reese and Caelen, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by parents, Joseph and Mary Ann (nee Rumbolt) Hughes; sisters: Minnie Coombs, Rebecca Tatchell, Mary Ann Tachell, Catherine Hynes and Amy Doyle; brothers: Henry, Abraham, Phillip and Wilfred Hughes. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue, on Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 2nd at 10:30 a.m. from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Father Ambrose Hynes officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
