Gordon George Bumphrey of Mossbank, SK passed away peacefully with family at his side on June 29, 2010 at Assiniboia Long-Term Care after a lengthy battle with lung disease. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Jean (nee Ireland); their children Ron (Joan) Bumphrey of Mossbank, SK, Wayne (Michelle Penney) Bumphrey of Sundre, AB and Carolyn (Glen) Cartwright of Dundurn, SK; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Shelley (Steve) Zarich children Jordan and Landon of Tennesee, USA, Shannon (Troy) Hicke children Gavin and Connor of Regina, SK, Katie (Jason) Letnes children Nathan and Carter of Mossbank, SK, Heather (Brian) Hubbard son Benjamin of Warman, SK, Matthew, Danny and Laura-Jean Zmud of Dundurn, SK and Carey (Zoe) Penney children Arrianna and Maia of NF; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by his parents George and Mae Bumphrey; son Jimmy (1961); brother Ken Bumphrey; brothers-in-law Bill Linn and Bob Ireland and sister-in-law Sandy Bumphrey. Gordon was born and raised on the family farm East of Mossbank, a child of the Dirty 30's. As a young man he worked for his dad at the Dray and Transfer and B/A. He worked as a trucker, plumber (installing many heating and plumbing systems in Mossbank) and then farming pigs, cattle and grain. In 1946 he married Jean Ireland and they have resided in the same home in Mossbank since then, where they raised their family. Gordon was well respected, good natured and a hard worker. He loved having his family and friends around, whether it be working together on the farm, playing cards, hunting, fishing or playing with the kids. He was well known for his storytelling, sharp wit and his memory for detail. Gordon could fix anything and loved to tinker in his shop. He loved nature and animals, especially his horses and dogs. Gordon was patient, content and appreciative, especially of the care given by Dr. Glaske, nurses and staff at Long-Term Care. In his own words, "How lucky we were for a good life, some hard times but what a good life". Funeral service on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mossbank United Church, Mossbank, SK. Officiant, DLMr Wendy Gibson. Eulogists, Bob Linn and Carolyn Cartwright. Organist, Chris Faris. Honorary Pallbearers, "All those who shared in Gordon's life." Active pallbearers, nephews Rob Bumphrey, Brent Gillespie, friends Cal Sutor, Jim Sutor, Doug Nagel, Mike McDowell. Interment Mossbank Cemetery. Memorial donations gratefully accepted for the Mossbank United Church, Box 475 Mossbank, SK S0H 3G0.
