22 May 1934 - 2 July 2010. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary O'Keefe announce her passing at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, NL on 2 July 2010. She was surrounded by her family in her peaceful passing to the next life. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband, Michael; her infant son, Paddy; her mother Bride Barry; her father, Jim Barry; her sisters Jean, Ilene, Rita and Mercedes; her brother Tom; her granddaughter Colleen; her grandson, Christopher, and her son-in-law, Rick. Mary is survived by her brothers, Gerald, Jim, Leonard, and Clarence; sons Gerald (Judy) of Mobile, N.L., Tony (Peggy) of Fort McMurray, Alta., Randy (Hellen) of Yellowknife, NWT; daughters, Shirley (Rick) of Fort McMurray, Alta., Theresa (Rob) of Williamsport, PA, Bev (Scott) of Hudson, MA, Dotty (Jim) of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L., Bridget (Wayne) of Yellowknife, NWT; grandsons, Richard, Guy, Jason, Randy, Andrew, Jake, and William; grand-daughters, Melissa, Mandy, Allie, Ashley, Jessa, Alexis, Kait, Brittany, Tori, Jaimee, and Julia; great-grandchildren, Shae and Jude; and of course her beloved cats, Angel and Missy Moo. Mary was born on Merasheen Island on 22 May 1934, and her family resettled in Placentia, N.L. She raised her family in Big Barrisway, and eventually moved to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, where she remained until her recent illness brought her back to the island. She is lovingly remembered by her family and friends as a kind, gentle, and giving woman, who will be greatly missed by so many. Resting at Maher's Funeral Home, Placentia, N.L., with visitation on Saturday from 7 - 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 2- 4 p.m. and 6 -9 p.m. Funeral mass to take place at Sacred Heart Church in Placentia, N.L. on Monday, July 5, 2010 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Barrisway Cemetery.
