Ivan William McCarthy, 93, died at Perth-Andover, New Brunswick on July 6, 2010. He was born in Grand Falls, NB on May 26, 1917, the son of Alexander McCarthy and Elizabeth McCormick. He was predeceased by his siblings John, Bert, Theresa, Leoma, Rita and Eugene. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Beatrice McCarthy, mother of his four children, Bonnie, husband Wendell, Peter, wife Jacinthe, Michael, wife Alice and Barbara. His grandchildren are Ivan, Nina, Christine, Cherie (deceased), Jason and Jonathan, and his great grandchildren are Dana, Alec, Kenneth, Elizabeth, Garnet and Margaret. His second marriage was to Lena Lagace Geneau.
He graduated from Grand Falls High School. He started farming in Grand Falls Portage, where he was a potato and dairy farmer his entire life. He sang in the St. Patrick's Church Choir during his lifetime. He was voted the youngest member of the Victoria County Council, serving for several years. He was also the Secretary Treasurer of the Grand Falls Portage School, and later became a member of the consolidated school board in Grand Falls. He enjoyed family and family gatherings, people, music, playing cards, family geneology, and the Florenceville Auction Barn.

He will be resting at O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls with visiting hours on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. His funeral service will be held Thursday, July 8th at 11 a.m. from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls (Portage) with Father Gilbert Doddatto officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Immediately following the service, there will be a luncheon in the St. Patrick's Church hall. For those who wish, donations to St. Patrick's Church or Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family. www.oregans.ca
