GORDON PAULSON
Passed on: June 29th, 2010
December 31, 1931 - June 29, 2010
With great sadness, the children of Gord Paulson announce his passing June 29, 2010 at his care home in Westlock, AB. Dad was born December 31, 1931 in Moose Jaw, SK. He was the second of three sons born to Augusta and Erik Paulson. Dad completed his Grade 8 education at King George School then left the classroom to work at his father's concrete business (Paulson and Sons). He continued his work career at the BA/Gulf Oil/PetroCan Asphalt Plant, retiring after 38 years of service. Even after his retirement Dad was most comfortable wearing his "company blues" as he fondly referred to his blue work shirt and pants. He married Marion Cockerell in 1954 and together they had seven children. Dad always had a project in the works from building our first home on Redland Ave. to his last big project of constructing granddaughter clocks for each of his children. Over the years he enjoyed curling, camping (we have fond memories of Dad chasing the bears away from our campsites by banging the garbage can lids together), woodworking, organizing the Christmas parties at work, and his trips to Hawaii. Dad was known for his quick laugh, powerful size and big heart - always willing to offer a hand. Dad was a long time resident at Buffalo Pound Lake where he enjoyed his solitude and the nature around him. The only thing that brought him more joy was when friends and family stopped in to visit. Dad's door was always open and the coffee was always on. Predeceased by his parents and older brother Knud (Myra), he will be lovingly remembered by his children: David (Mary) of Prince George, BC; Margaret (Stan) Fieber of Thorhild, AB; Sandra (Maurice) Couture of Moose Jaw; Janet (George) Gregory of Surrey, BC; Heather (Bill) Hildebrandt of Grand Coulee; Greg (Carla) of Prince George, BC; and Robin (Bob) Newans of Moose Jaw. He has also been blessed with twenty-three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dad also leaves to mourn his brother Ken (Arlene) of Moose Jaw and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Gord's life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday July 14, 2010 at 11:00 am. Private memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials to the Village of South Lake, for a memorial bench in memory of Gord, would be appreciated. In living memory of Gord, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
