Donald Fraser Macdonald - 67, Oxford, passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Springhill, he was a son of Rhoean "Rin" (Halliday) Macdonald, Riverview, NB and the late William Macdonald and birth mother Ethel (Wilson) Macdonald. Don began his working career with Eaton's in Moncton and later with Macy's, 5th Avenue in New York as a window decorator. He then worked for Henry Birk & Sons in both Moncton and Edmonton. He went on to work with Met Life in Moncton and Oxford, and later with the Municipality of Cumberland County. Together with his family, Don was owner/operator of the Parkview Family Restaurant & Inn in Oxford for over 16 years. He was a lifetime member of Oxford Area Lions Club. He enjoyed renovating homes over the years, gardening and traveling. Don was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, the former Jeanette "Jan" Thompson; son, Shawn (Kelley), Oxford; daughter, Jill (Colby) Fraser, Montague, PEI; brother, Bill (Bonnie), Moncton; sisters, Beverley Veltman, Edmonton, AB; Heather (Ronald) Gogen, Moncton; Wendy Agnew (Sue Kelly), Moncton; MaryLou (Norm) Chappell, Moncton; grandchildren, Jeff and Sara Macdonald. He was predeceased by his brother, Jeffery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 14 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (447-2930). Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15 in Trinity United Church, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Trinity United Church.
