She was born in New Horton, New Brunswick, on Dec. 24, 1920, the daughter of the late Cora Fiddler and Robert Stewart Copp. Alice arrived in Madison at age 9 and was brought up by Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Copp. Her love remained until the end for Buddy and Joan and their family. Alice graduated in 1938 from Madison High School, where she was queen of her senior prom. She received her nursing degree in Portland and spent her professional life as a registered nurse, first in Lewiston-Auburn area and then in Boston hospitals. In 2006 she moved to Waterville area to be near her daughter and family. Alice loved to read and enjoyed knitting when her vision allowed. She was a "very interesting" personality and always an individual in her opinions about current events, politics, and family. In her 50's she became an American citizen, and in 2008 she proudly cast her first vote in a presidential election when she voted for Barack Obama. Family was always important to Alice and she did the best she could to help and support her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughter Kathleen Wing Jones, who passed away in 1993; and her grandchildren, Lisa Jones Neal, who passed away in 2008. She will be missed by her daughter, Deborah and husband, Daniel, of Waterville; her grandson, Mark Jones and his wife, Sandy, of Weymouth, Mass.; granddaughter Rebekah Beaulieu of Newton, Mass.; and grandson Damon Beaulieu of Waterville. Alice's "greats" included great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Michael Neal and Joey Brannan and Taylor and Ryan Jones. Funeral services were held at Redington Funeral Home, 5 Park St., Waterville. A grave side service will be held at a later date to be announced. The family would like to thank Dr. Roland Knausenberger, Inland Hospital, Oak Grove and Woodlands for all the wonderful care and support they gave Alice. Those who wish may make donations in Alice's memory to the American Cancer Society.
