DICKIE - James (Jim) Burnett Dickie aged 80 passed away on Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Swift Current Care Center. Jim was born in Sceptre, SK, on September 19, 1929. In his younger years Jim worked various farm jobs, driving delivery truck for McGavin's and working in the lumberyard in Sceptre, Elrose, Rosetown, Eston, Swift Current and surrounding area until moving to Medicine Hat, AB, with his family in 1971. Jim pursued a career in the oilfield industry and worked for different companies throughout the years such as Dowell, Eskimo and Opsco until injury prevented him from no longer doing so. Eventually he moved back to Swift Current and resided with his two sons until moving into the Swift Current Care Center in 2006. Jim made many friends with the residents and wonderful staff who took who took exceptional care of him. Jim's pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival if his newest great grandson this summer. He always looked forward to family visits at the Care Center, and made sure all the staff knew when they were coming. Those who knew and loved Jim appreciated him for his sense of humor and he will be sadly missed by many. Jim is survived by his children Duane of Saskatoon, SK; Shauna Aadland (Ron) of Medicine Hat, AB, their children Corey, Cameron, Jeremy (Jen), Brandon, Ashton (Andrew) and Kylie; Darrin of Swift Current, SK; Lisa (Darren) Yanke of Medicine Hat, AB their children Kirsten, Austin and Kendyl; three great grandchildren Darwin, Brin and Ava; as well as his brother Lynn; and two sisters Margret and Lois Jean. He was predeceased by his parents Ellen and Robert and one sister Loretta. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 21, 2010, at 2:30 pm from the Chapel of Swift Current Funeral Home with Pastor John Regier officiating. Special music was played by Neil McCrie on Bagpipes. Donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
