The passing of Douglas "Doug" Chalmers Jones, of Fredericton, NB, husband of Peggy (Hawkins) Jones occurred on Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 6, 1943 he was a son of the late Murray and Pearl (Barton) Jones. Doug was an engineering technician with the Department of Transportation for 37 years before retiring in 2000. Doug was a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan, and played Old-timers hockey with "Jack's Old Wrecks". He enjoyed golfing at Mactaquac, spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and trips through the Tim Horton's drive-thru with his dog, Steffi. In addition to his wife, Peggy, Doug is survived by three children, Janet Jones (David Quan) and Gregory Jones (Nina), both of Toronto, ON and Krista Donovan (Brad) of Fredericton, NB; sister, Norma Hubert; six grandchildren, Shaw and Maya Quan, Simon and Piper Jones, Brandon and Ryan Donovan; brother-in-law, Richard Hawkins, sister-in-law, Barb Hatheway (Don) and chosen sister, Myrna Richard, as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by a grandson, Nicolas Daniel Quan; as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Irvine and Muriel Hawkins; and brother-in-law Andy Hubert.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, July ­­27, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. Franklin Curtis officiating as well as Father John Harvey and Rev. Bob Jones assisting. Honourary Pallbearers are Peter Crawford, Bernie LaPointe, Michael Henderson, John Bailey, Lew Carr and Darwin Hartt. A reception will follow the service. Interment will take place in Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
